BA (Hons) UC Cardiff. MIAI.
Dave spent a number of years in Scotland, digging in Glasgow, in East Lothian and Angus, and at Whithorn in the southwest.
He was given his first commission for interpretive drawings at Jedburgh Abbey in the Borders, in 1984. Thereafter he split his time between digging and drawing, with a string of commissions from Historic Scotland, the Scottish National Trust, and several local authorities. The Whithorn Trust commissioned collections of drawings for indoor and outdoor displays, and publications.
In 1993 he moved to Ireland, interviewed for an excavation licence, and took on archaeological assessments ahead of proposed developments, and investigations ahead of conservation works at National Monuments. His main projects in Ireland have been a complex investigation in the heart of Waterford (Barronstrand Street), and excavations at Dungarvan Castle (Co. Waterford) and Barryscourt (Co. Cork). These last two were intermittent over several years, and carried out for the National Monuments Service.
Other work for the National Monuments Service has included researching Irish castles for an audiovisual presentation, research for modelmaking, work on guidebooks and leaflets, and producing interpretive panels.
He has given evening classes in Dungarvan and Lismore on the archaeology of county Waterford, and has produced guidebooks on medieval Dungarvan and Waterford.
